Helmholtz Software Award Visual

The Helmholtz Software Award aims to promote the development of professional and high-quality research software, and to recognize the commitment to software as the basis of modern Data Science. The winners of the Helmholtz Software Award 2023 have recently been announced and will present their software during the 32nd HiRSE Seminar.

Call opened

The call for proposals for the Helmholtz Software Award 2024 has now been opened! The Award is granted to Helmholtz scientists, engineers and teams that develop outstanding software solutions. As last year, there will be prizes in three categories:

  • Best Scientific Software for innovative contributions and scientific results achieved with a software.
  • Sustainability for software that is sustainable in the sense of software engineering according to the FAIR principles, and for extensive support and participation of the scientific community.
  • Newcomer for young software solutions with great potential and visible growth rate in application.

The prize money ranges from 5,000 € to 2,000 €.

Application

Each Helmholtz centre may nominate a maximum of three suitable candidates to the call until 20. October. Next, the candidates will be invited by the committee of the Helmholtz Software award to submit a proposal until 31. October.

You are a software developer and want to join the call? Contact your centre's administration to be nominated. Details on the process and requirements will be communicated by the responsible contacts at your centre.

For participation, the software needs an entry in the Helmholtz RSD. Login now and add your software!

The Helmholtz Software Award is a joint initiative of Helmholtz Federated IT Services (HIFIS), the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA), the „Helmholtz Platform for Research Software Engineering - Preparatory Study“ (HiRSE_PS), and the Helmholtz Open Science Office.
